Where are those other pictures?
Boaz's first pictures

Birth weight: 8.2 lbs or 3.73 kilos

Astrology: Sun - Libra, Gemini Rising, Mars and Jupiter - Libra, Moon in Capricorn, Venus in Virgo, Mercury in Scorpio, Southern Node Scorpio and his mid-heaven is in Aquarius.

We planned a homebirth. We love the idea of homebirth, of having our son in the privacy and comfort of our own home, a place where we control the amount of medical interference into his life and where we decide who gets to enter his space. Unfortunately, because Boaz's umbilical cord was too short, this was not to be.

The time we spent between Dana going into labor and our son's birth via C-section was precious and holy. We don't have a lot of pictures yet. Here is what we have to offer for now. Oh well, so much for best laid plans.

Love Mimi, Dana and Boaz

When this picture was taken, Dana and Boaz had barely met. We actually took one picture before this one but it was sad and looked so scary that we threw it away.

Sweet sweet Dana. After 36 hours of labor at home and 12 hours after transferring to Dominican Hospital, she still remained brave and strong. In the words of a friend who recently watched his wife give birth:

"I can only worship her".

Meet "Doda" (Aunt) Carmen. This woman, Dana's maternal aunt, gave us so much love, humor, attention and still did all the cooking, cooking cooking! We have homemade hummus, pickles, chicken soup, jams and cakes for anyone who stops over this week.

She left Oct. 24th, 2004. Just 24 hours after her sister, Dana's mom Rena and her Dad Eliezer arrived.

This is our first picture with our Midwife Karen Ehrlich. We love this picture.

Karen is a phenomenal midwife and made sure that both Dana and Boaz stayed healthy and strong.

She also gave me a lot of emotional support and has a seemingly infinite knowledge bank about birth.

Three of Santa Cruz's most respected midwives (Sylvia, Raven and Karen) worked with Dana during her difficult labor. Each one brought cherished lessons and memories for us. Thank you all!

Meeting Boaz (or Bo-bo as we call him) was the most miraculous part of the whole process but along the way, these three midwives, their assistants and our many friends made the experience less frightening and help out in countless other ways. We love you all and wish we had pictures of every one of you.

I was so tired that I can't even remember when this picture was taken. I do remember how worried I was that my son was going to be taken away for observation and how much I wanted to go home. I remember how good it felt to hold Bo-bo and to quiet him when he cried.

I vividly remember my heart almost bursting after the birth, while wondering about the whole process with our dear friend Val in the courtyard. I remember how grateful I was to the nurses and doctors who gave us advice and helped us learn how to swaddle and how to change diapers quickly.

I remember Kathy's moxa treatment and so much more...

Here I am with Boaz at home -- one happy Momma! It was heaven being at home with him the first night even though we didn't sleep a wink. Now, he is almost a week old and he is stronger and more trusting of us. He smiles (and don't say it is gas, "do you smile when you have gas?" -K.E.) and he quiets easily. He is a love and a joy. His eyes are actually wide open and very alert. I've added more pictures here.

I can't wait to introduce you to our son.

Love Mimi, Dana (who is nursing right now) and Boaz.

P.S. Dana loves this picture the most:

The final follow-up check-up 2 months after the C-section with Dr. Welley ended in a smile and a photograph. Both Dana and Boaz are totally healthy.

Horray and tfu-tfu-tfu!
